In my hectic life, quilting is my quiet place...to relax and create. I am learning to quilt, little by little, and writing about the experience.

Podcast 4 - nothing to fear but...
In this podcast, I explain how I listened to a podcast from Quilting...for the Rest of Us that focused on Do-overs. The biggest issue that people had was being afraid to do something or make mistakes. I realized that I was the same. In this podcast, I explain where my fear comes from and how I hope to overcome it. I also talk about my progress and how I have many different projects going at once...and that is OK...because it is my hobby! Hehehehe. Thank you for joining me, in my quilting daydreams!

Hi Katie,
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying your adventure :)
I was really interested in your comment about telling your children that they must have really tried hard and not comment that they were smart. It turns out I was in San Antonio this week for a conference and one of the keynoters, Jonah Lehrer, talked about Carol Dweck and it sounded exactly like what you were talking about.
Just FYI, Jonah was a great story teller. I picked up a couple of his books: Proust was a Neuroscientist and How We Decide.

Exactly! The training I received as a teacher was around "MIndset- the new psychology of success" and how that relates to how we comment on student work. I am trying to apply that to the praise that I give my babies. How cool to hear them speak on this! It is such a powerful concept.
